Press Release: Robocall Protest in St. John's

Media Advisory - For immediate release
March 9, 2012
Robocall protest planned for St. John’s
Where: The Colonial Building in Bannerman Park
When: Sunday, March 11, Noon
Why: Protest fraud and voter suppression during the May 2011 federal election

On Sunday, March 11th citizens across Canada will gather to protest the use of illegal voter suppression tactics during the last federal election of May 2011.

Elections Canada has received at least 31,000 allegations of election violations during the May 2011 federal election. The election results in as many as 70 ridings may have been affected by the use of fraud and voter suppression tactics. New reports of alleged election fraud emerge daily. CBC reports that at least 2,700 late voter registrations occurred in the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence and that a “stack of late registration forms shows many provided no address, which is required by the elections law. Others have bogus addresses – a UPS store in one case, a Scotiabank branch in another.” Such actions are an attack on the very basis of Canada’s democratic system.

The growing scandal cuts across party lines – Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Greens, indeed Canadian citizens of all political stripes – are calling for the truth to come out through a full public inquiry into these events.

The rally will assemble at 12 pm (Noon) on Sunday (March 11) at the  Colonial Building in Bannerman Park. Information about the event is available on facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/events/385763404786355/ and on the Occupy NL website www.occupynl.ca
